PARISH OF CLONTIBRET NEWSLETTER

Fr Paudge McDonnell PP 042-9740121; Canon Philip Connolly PE 042-9741239.

5th February 2006        5th Sunday in Ordinary Time

A MEANING TO LIFE: The Christian sees a meaning to life through the life of Christ, for whom suffering became a means of achieving true life. Healing is a lifting up, and all suffering can lift up the world anew.

EDUCATION IN FAITH SUNDAY: Today is devoted to the celebration of those who work in the area of strengthening the faith in our homes, schools and in our parish. Parents, Teachers, Priests, Catechists and Parish Workers are crucial to the handing on of the faith. The Catholic bishops of Ireland have published a Pastoral Letter entitled nurturing Our Children’s Faith to coincide with Education in Faith Sunday. The Pastoral deals with the people and the methods that are important in communicating faith to children. Experience demonstrates that the faith of children is best nurtured when home, school and parish work together in partnership. A limited number of copies of the Pastoral letter can be found at the back of the churches. It can also be viewed online at www.catechetics.ie

NEXT SATURDAY is the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes and World Day of the Sick. On 11 Feb 1858, Our Lady first appeared to the 14-year-old Bernadette Soubirous. Later, Bernadette was to learn that the mysterious lady was the Blessed Virgin and to hear from her lips: “I am the Immaculate Conception”. In 1992, Pope John Paul II instituted the World Day of the Sick to be held on this date. It makes us aware of the value and role of human and Christian service to those who suffer and the consequent contribution to the building of peace.
