PARISH OF CLONTIBRET NEWSLETTER

Fr Paudge McDonnell PP 042-9740121; Fr Brendan Kieran CC (SScc) 047-80631

Canon Philip Connolly PE 042-9741239.

31st Sunday in Ordinary Time                                  30th  October 2005

TODAY’S THEME: First Reading: (Mal. 1:14-2:2, 8-10) is a warning of the consequences of the corruption among some of the priests and elders, who have abandoned the covenant with Yahweh through false teaching. It is very prophetic in view of the Ferns Report published during the week. Second Reading: (1 Thess.2:7-9, 13).This passage is in contrast to the first reading. St Paul thanks the Thessalonian community because they have taken the Gospel to heart. In the Gospel Reading (Matthew 23: 1-12) Jesus paints a pointed picture of a desolate and unproductive religion that possesses all the outward signs but none of the inward reality. It is hypocritical because it does not express sincerity.
