PARISH OF CLONTIBRET NEWSLETTER

Fr Paudge McDonnell PP 042-9740121; Canon Philip Connolly PE 042-9741239.

22nd January 2006        3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

God is here! Today’s Gospel account tells of the beginning of the ministry of Jesus. Like John the Baptist, Jesus proclaims the Good News of God with the imperative “Repent and Believe!” There is a new declaration here too- that God is here and that evil can be overcome. God is here in a new way; he rules through Jesus. Having recognised Jesus, we are all called to follow him just like Peter, Andrew, James and John. The call to follow Christ is the call to repent and believe. The path to victory is by a suffering discipleship. There is no other way.

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY All are invited to a special inter-Church prayer service in St.Patricks Church Ballybay on Wednesday 25th. at 8.00pm., the Feast of the Conversion of St Paul. The theme of this week is “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them” (Mt 18:20). For 2006, the Christian Churches in Ireland have picked the theme and the key Bible readings for this week. Ireland has a painful history of conflict over differing religious and political aims and aspirations.  With Communities torn apart and a lot of hurt caused on all sides. However, God has been present in the midst of the pain and brings healing to the physical and psychological wounds. In small gatherings of two or three or in large gatherings God is experienced. God calls his people together and shows how love and forgiveness go hand in hand.  Let us pray that we will, as a community and as individuals, try to discover the many surprising ways God is calling the Christian Churches of our parish. Is He calling us to reach out to other Churches? Is He calling us to be more inclusive of those Christians from other countries who now form part of our parish?
