FEASTS: Mon 21st – Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This feast originated in the East and was made universal in the 16th cent.  Weds 23rd - St Columban (or Columbanus). Born around 543 AD. Was a teacher in the Monastery at Bangor. In 591, he set out with 12 companions for the European continent where he set up monasteries in France, Switzerland and at Bobbio in Italy, where he died in 615 AD. Regarded as Ireland’s greatest missionary.
