PARISH OF CLONTIBRET NEWSLETTER

Fr Paudge McDonnell PP 042-9740121; Canon Philip Connolly PE 042-9741239.

12th February 2006 6th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sin sets us outside the Christian Community. Jesus comes to bring the leper back by the ritual means prescribed in the Law. The Sacrament of Reconciliation restores sinners to the community.

The Equal Dignity of Human Persons requires the effort to reduce excessive social and economic inequalities. It gives urgency to the elimination of sinful inequalities. (Catechism of the Catholic Church – No 1947)

TUESDAY 14 February is the Feast of Saints Cyril & Methodius, Patrons of Europe. They were brothers; Cyril became a Monk while Methodius went to Moravia to preach the Gospel in the Slav language. Together they translated the Gospels into Slavonic. They were both consecrated Bishops in Rome but Cyril died there on 14 Feb 869. Methodius, having returned home to Moravia, died there on 6 April 885. In 1980 Pope John Paul II, the first Slav to become Pope, declared them Patrons of Europe.
