MASS ATTENDANCE
SURVEY: Over the coming weeks the numbers, attending all
Masses in the diocese will be counted. This is for the purposes of the
forthcoming Ad Limina visit of the Irish Bishops to Pope Benedict later
in the year. The figures will be used in compiling the report on the Church in
our diocese at this time and will be sent to Rome in advance of the visit.
TUESDAY 14 February is the Feast of Saints Cyril
& Methodius, Patrons of Europe. They were brothers; Cyril became a Monk
while Methodius went to Moravia to preach the Gospel in the Slav language.
Together they translated the Gospels into Slavonic. They were both consecrated
Bishops in Rome but Cyril died there on 14 Feb 869. Methodius, having returned
home to Moravia, died there on 6 April 885. In 1980 Pope John Paul II, the
first Slav to become Pope, declared them Patrons of Europe.
ST MACARTAN- 1,500 YEARS: Just a reminder that on March 24
we celebrate the feast of St Macartan, Patron and first Bishop of our Diocese
of Clogher. This year is special because it marks the 1,500th
anniversary of the death of Macartan in 506AD. The highlight of the special
celebrations will be a Special Mass in the Cathedral on Sunday 26 March.
COLLECTIONS: Parish Renovations-€1,327. New Weekly Envelopes
