Fr. Paudge McDonnell P.P.

Fr McDonnell was appointed Parish Priest of Clontibret by Dr.Joseph Duffy, Bishop of Clogher, on 1 September 2004.

He is a native of Castleblayney in the adjoining parish of Muckno. Having completed his studies at St Macartan's College, Monaghan and St Patrick's College. Maynooth, Fr McDonnell was ordained to the Priesthood by Most Rev Patrick Mulligan, Bishop of Clogher, on 18 June 1972 in the Chapel of the Sacred Hearts Congregation at Tanagh, Cootehill.

CC Galloon (Newtownbutler, Co Fermanagh) 1990-91
CC Donacavey (Fintona, Co Tyrone) 1991-93
CC Botha (Derrygonnelly, Co Fermanagh) 1993-2004.

Canon Philip Connolly P.E.

Canon Connolly was Parish Priest of Clontibret from April 1984 until 1 September 2004. He is a native of Drumod in the parish of Aughnamullen West (Latton) and received his education at Derrygooney NS, St Macartan's College, Monaghan and St Patrick's College, Maynooth.

Ordained to the priesthood in St Patrick's College Maynooth on June 19 1955 by Most Rev John Charles McQuaid, Archbishop of Dublin and Primate of Ireland, his first appointment in the Diocese of Clogher was to the parish of Inis Muighe Saimh (Garrison), Co Fermanagh. He later served in the adjoining parish of Beleek which is now (since 1980) united to Garrison.

He also served as a curate in the parish of Muckno (Castleblayney) from 1962 until 1964 when he was appointed CC here in Clontibret parish, attached to All Saints' church in Doohamlet. While there he undertook the work of leading and organising the conversion of the old Creamery at Doohamlet into the Golden Jubilee Hall in 1966. In 1966 he was appointed CC in Clones and in the following year as CC in Clogher parish. In 1969 he was appointed to the parish of Tedavnet where he served as curate for 15 years, until his appointment as PP of Clontibret on Palm Sunday, 15 April 1984.

He was created a Canon of the Cathedral Chapter in June of the Great Jubilee Year 2000. That appointment made him the first incumbent Parish Priest of Clontibret to be elevated to the Cathedral Chapter in over 160 years.

Canon Connolly retired as Parish Priest of Clontibret on 1 September 2004 and now resides at Doohamlet. He continues to minister in all three churches of the parish as Pastor Emeritus.

PRIESTS WHO HAVE MINISTERED IN CLONTIBRET PARISH

A list of Priests and Administrators who have served the people of Clontibret parish since the end of the Penal Laws – i.e. the end of the 18th century can be found here.

The Bishop of Clogher held Clontibret as his "Mensal" parish from 1858 until 1970 and was therefore Parish Priest. The day to day running of the parish was delegated to an Administrator, under the Bishop’s supervision.

RECONCILIATION

Half-Hour before Weekday Evening Masses.

ACCORD- HELPING MARRIAGES

Accord is a Catholic Agency which helps couples prepare for Marriage. It also offers support and counselling for those experiencing difficulty in their marriage. For further help and advice contact 047 83359 , Mon – Fri 10am – 1pm.

If you intend to marry you are advised to do the Pre-Marriage course at least 12 months before your wedding. Application forms are available from the priests of the parish or from any parochial house. The numbers are strictly limited. A fee of €60 is payable with your application. Courses begin on Friday evenings at 8pm and finish on Saturdays at 5pm and are held in St Macartan’s College, Monaghan.
