Sacraments of Vocation
MARRIAGE
The celebration of Marriage between two Catholic faithful normally takes place during a celebration of the Eucharist - the Mass.
This is because of the connection of all the Sacraments with the Paschal mystery of Christ. Catechism of the Catholic Church, No. 1621.
The following are the requirements for couples planning to celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage in the Parish of Clontibret.
- At least 3 months notice must be given to the Parish Priest (Tel. 042 974 0121) with whom Pre-Nuptial Enquiry forms must be completed.
- At least 3 months notice must also be given to The Registrar of Marriages, Local Health Unit, Rooskey, Monaghan, (Tel. 047-30444).
ID is required for this purpose.
- In the case of marriages outside of Ireland, at least 5 months notice should be given.
- A Marriage Preparation Course must be completed. (See www.accord.ie for course details or contact Accord Monaghan at 047 83359

- A Solemn Declaration must be made at the marriage that no impediment exists.
Both partners are required by law to
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Not be related by blood or marriage
- Not be of the same sex
- Have the mental maturity to understand and live out the marriage commitment
- Not be married to someone else

HOLY ORDERS
Holy Orders is the Sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his Apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time. It is the Sacrament of Apostolic Ministry.
There are three Holy Orders in the Catholic Church- Diaconate (Deacons), the Presbyterate (Priests) and the Episcopate (Bishops).
